WHITE TIGER KEMPO KARATE

Kempo is a modern form of self-defense with its origins in the Oriental Martial Arts.  Our style of Kempo is from the White Tiger System.  The techniques or motions are based on five animals: the Tiger, Snake, Dragon, Crane and Leopard.  The hand motions, types of strikes and footwork come from these five animals.  It is the combination of these five animals that make our system highly effective.  The Tiger is fast and powerful, using hard strikes, rakes and overwhelming force.  The Snake is patient and quiet, striking fast to vital areas or choking its prey.  The Dragon is mystical, striking with stealth.  It comes in fast and unseen.  The Crane uses its entire body and balance to amplify its strikes and redirect its opponent’s power.  The Leopard uses multiple strikes, agility and speed to overcome a stronger opponent.

The Students of Kempo Martial Arts are bound by three basic rules of conduct.  These rules make you a better student of the art and a better member of your community.

1. Respect – Respect yourself and others.  Treat your parents, instructors, teachers, peers and all those you come in contact with in a polite and courteous manner.  Expect respect from others by giving them respect.  Never laugh at or make fun of someone else’s difficulty.

2. Self-Control – Stay on the right path when pressured by others to stray.  Follow through when something becomes difficult and it is easier to quit.  Develop the confidence to walk away from situations that can lead to disappointment or danger. Do these things on your own without intervention from authority figures.

3. Discipline – Do what is right.  Set high standards for yourself and live by them in all areas of your life. Follow instructions given by parents and teachers and notify the appropriate person when something is not up to your standards and the established rules.
